Our playschool operates under the non-profit governance of the Baturyn Community League. At Baturyn Playschool, we offer a learn-through-play program that celebrates the uniqueness and creativity of every child. Our goal is to help young children build social skills, develop routines, share new experiences, make friends, and begin learning foundational skills that support kindergarten readiness. Job Summary
As a Playschool Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a foundational love for learning. You will work together as a team with a second teacher, design and implement a playful, developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters curiosity, independence, and social skills, gross and fine motor skills in children aged 3 to 5 years. Your goal will be to provide a safe, organized, and joyful classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instruction:working within our existing curriculum and feel comfortable using their knowledge and skills to enhance lesson and activities that stimulate growth in language, motor skills, social-emotional learning, and basic academics (shapes, colors, numbers, literacy).
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and facility environment. Establish clear, positive routines and boundaries using gentle, constructive guidance. Feel comfortable leading a class with a parent volunteer in the event of co-teacher absence.
- Communication & Collaboration: Maintain open, supportive communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s progress, milestones, and challenges. Adhere to operating league and Playschool policies.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all local licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and school policies. Supervise children closely at all times (classroom, playground, field trips).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) level 2 or 3.
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed childcare or school setting.
- Skills:
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults.
- Creativity and flexibility to adapt lessons on the fly when interest shifts.
- Certifications: Must have CPR and First Aid certification and a comprehensive background/vulnerable persons check report.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sit on the floor, bend, crouch, and move quickly to ensure the safety of the children.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary ranging (less statutory remittances) for the term of the employment contract. Government top up for childcare hours is available if you meet the requirements.
- We follow the Edmonton Public School Calendar so all PD days and school holidays will follow that.
- The employment contract runs from the last week of August to the end of June.
