Job Summary
The Working Foreman is responsible for leading a small field crew while actively participating in daily construction activities. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and to company and client standards. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a valid DZ driver's licence, and experience operating equipment and performing general labour duties. Experience in the electrical utility industry is considered a strong asset.
Duties
- Lead and supervise a crew in the safe and efficient completion of daily work assignments.
- Perform hands-on labour, including excavation support, site preparation, restoration, and general construction duties.
- Operate company vehicles requiring a DZ licence and transport equipment, materials, and crew members to and from job sites.
- Conduct toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, client requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Read and interpret utility locates, construction drawings, and work orders.
- Coordinate daily activities with supervisors, utility representatives, inspectors, and subcontractors as required.
- Monitor work quality and productivity while ensuring projects remain on schedule.
- Complete daily reports, timesheets, equipment inspections, and other required documentation.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure equipment and tools are maintained in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Assist with emergency response work and after-hours call-outs when required.
- Mentor and train crew members in safe work practices and company procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid Ontario DZ Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in construction, civil, or utility labour.
- Demonstrated leadership or crew supervision experience.
- Experience working in the electrical utility industry (hydro distribution, underground or overhead utilities, streetlighting, substations, or related infrastructure).
- Knowledge of utility locates and underground infrastructure.
- Experience operating construction equipment such as mini excavators, skid steers, loaders, or dump trucks.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, and Traffic Control certifications.
- Thorough understanding of safe work practices and applicable health and safety legislation.
