Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Temporary Full Time Nurse Practitioner (ONA KW) ; Until Approximately August 31 st , 2026

Monday -Friday 8 hour day
The WRHN Cancer Centre hematology program provides care for patients with malignant hematological diseases. The primary modes of therapy are intensive chemotherapy, transfusion and antibiotic support for immunosuppression and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of the WRHN Cancer Centre team and is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post graduate level, who functions in an expanded nursing role in a collaborative practice model. Working in collaboration with the interprofessional team, the NP manages, directs and provides comprehensive care for patients with cancer including the complex malignant hematology population.
The NP’s principal responsibilities include: utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for autologous transplant patients involving collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, determining a medical diagnosis and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems including the psychosocial component. The NP is an important stakeholder in the hematology program; participating in program expansion, policy and procedure development, education and mentorship. The NP will also be responsible for supporting in other clinic areas within the outpatient oncology unit with a specific focus on the Patients Accessing Care Experiencing Symptoms Clinic (PACES Clinic).
The NP demonstrates autonomy by assuming responsibility and accountability to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and order a range of diagnostic tests within the scope of practice; specifically, side effect management, admission, and discharge of this specialized patient population.
This role will include: patient assessment, health screening, evaluation, and follow up of nursing interventions and promoting continuity of care across care settings and between health care providers.
The NP functions as an advocate and primary contact for the patient/family, providing education, information, and resources about transplantation, helping them to navigate the system, and regularly communicating plans with the interprofessional team and related services throughout the journey of care.
· Completion of a recognized Master’s degree program in Nursing
· Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in the Extended Class, in good standing required
· CON(C) required
· Two (2) years of recent experience in Oncology as a nurse practitioner preferred
· Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
· ACLS certification
· Experience in and or understanding of nursing research, program planning and evaluation methodology
· Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to WRHN standards
· Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
· Compliance with confidentiality requirements
· Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
· Demonstrated coaching, mentoring skills as well as superior presentation and consultative skills
· Knowledge of applicable legislative, WRHN and/or departmental standards
· Commitment to collaborative practice
· Ability to utilize information technology
· Demonstrated teaching and mentoring skills;
· Strong awareness and utilization of clinical best practice and evidence based care
· Good attendance record
