Program Overview: The Respite Companion Program at CCS operates in a brokerage
model. In this model, CCS acts as a link between individuals seeking respite companion services and individuals willing to provide these services. Once they are linked Respite
Companion Workers and Clients contract with each other directly to determine the duties, schedule and rate of pay. Respite Companion Workers are self-employed.
Respite Companion Clients: A client is an individual who for a family member who is: 55 years of age or older or is a person with a disability who is 19 years of age or older.
A client can be an individual companion service for their loved one who is 55 years of age or older or for a person with a disability who is 19 years of age or older.
A client can also be a person who is 55 years of age or older or who is a person with a disability who is 19 years of age or older: companion services for themselves.
Respite Companion Participants: A participant is an individual 55 years of age or older or a person with a disability who is 19 years of age or older; who from Respite Workers.
Position Deliverables/Accountabilities:
- Abides by terms in CCS Respite Companion Worker Agreement
- Assists clients with basic activities that can include assistance with meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, emotional support activities and social stimulation for clients.
- Take emergency response measures as required for clients needing immediate assistance.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Acts in a professional manner consistent with CCS Vision, Mission and Values, thus building trust and confidence among clients and the community.
Qualification Criteria for the Respite Companion Worker – Brokerage Model Program:
- Valid Standard First Aid / CPR (Level C) Certificate
- Original Copy of the Clean Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Persons)
- Experience working with seniors and persons with disabilities
- Communication skills to work effectively with clients
- Comfortable in clients’ home completing contracted work in accordance with Respite Worker Companion Role
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment. An accommodation will be made as legislated on the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code.
