Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Dispensing Optician to join our optical team. The ideal candidate will assist patients in selecting eyewear, ensure proper fitting, and provide exceptional service to enhance patient satisfaction. This role requires a strong understanding of optical products, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a retail environment. The Dispensing Optician plays a vital role in helping patients achieve optimal vision and style while supporting the overall success of our practice.
Duties
- Assist patients in selecting eyeglasses and contact lenses based on their prescriptions, lifestyle, and preferences.
- Properly fit, adjust, and dispense eyewear to ensure comfort and optimal vision correction.
- Educate patients on lens options, frame styles, and lens coatings to help them make informed decisions.
- Take precise measurements for lens fabrication, including pupillary distance and frame size.
- Verify prescriptions and ensure accuracy of eyewear orders before dispensing.
- Maintain detailed patient records and update optical charts accurately.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing questions, concerns, and providing professional advice.
- Collaborate with optometrists and other team members to ensure seamless patient care.
- Keep the optical area organized, clean, and well-stocked with frames, lenses, and accessories.
Experience
- Prior experience with optical dispensing or laboratory work is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health is advantageous.
- Experience with retail sales or sales in a healthcare setting is beneficial.
- Familiarity with optical software systems such as Epic is a plus.
- Previous experience in retail management or supervisory roles can be an asset but is not required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to educate patients effectively are essential.
