A well-established and respected construction and land development organization in the Niagara Region is seeking an experienced Controller to join its finance leadership team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strong accounting professional to take ownership of financial operations, improve processes, and provide meaningful financial insight to support continued growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions while working closely with Ownership, Executive Leadership, and operational teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening financial reporting, improving systems and controls, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a driven finance professional looking to expand their leadership responsibilities and contribute to a growing company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the organization’s financial planning and accounting activities, including accounting systems, chart of accounts, and banking relationships
- Prepare annual budgets, monthly projections, financial reporting, and analysis
- Complete monthly bank reporting and provide financial insights to support business decisions
- Prepare financial analysis and cost justification for capital purchases
- Develop and manage accounts receivable processes, collections, and credit policies
- Oversee accounts payable, inventory, and asset management
- Coordinate payroll and payroll tax administration in partnership with Human Resources
- Manage insurance, licensing, and permit renewals
- Evaluate supplier and subcontractor costs against budgets and support contract negotiations
- Administer construction job-costing systems, including job setup, maintaining data tables, and importing estimates
- Develop and implement processes to improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and financial controls
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to accounting team members
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation or CPA in progress considered an asset
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Direct experience within construction, land development, homebuilding, or a related industry is required
- Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization
- Proficiency with accounting software, financial reporting systems, and Microsoft Office applications
