Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) – Maternity Leave Contract

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team at Chippawa Animal Hospital on a maternity leave contract commencing now. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a well-established, supportive hospital environment where your technical skills and patient care truly make an impact every day. We are an independently owned small animal clinic serving people and their pets for 35 years. Hours from 8 to 5 Monday to Friday, no on-call. We have AVImark practice software, and utilize in-clinic laboratory tests as well as the Idexx reference lab. We have ultrasound and dental X-ray equipment.
About the Role
This is a full-time, fixed-term position covering a maternity leave. You’ll work alongside experienced veterinarians and a collaborative support team in a high-standard small animal practice.
What You’ll Do
- Provide exceptional nursing care to hospitalized patients
- Assist with and monitor anesthesia for surgical and dental procedures
- Perform laboratory diagnostics (hematology, biochemistry, cytology)
- Take and process diagnostic imaging (radiography; dental imaging an asset)
- Educate and communicate effectively with pet owners
- Preparing prescriptions, placing and receiving inventory
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment plans
- Support the team in delivering efficient, compassionate patient care and filling in for fellow staff members on vacation or for illness
- Minimal shared housekeeping and occasional projects.
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Veterinary Technician (or eligible for registration)
- Strong technical and anesthesia skills
- Confident communicator with a client-focused approach
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and a willingness to jump in where needed
- Experience in small animal practice preferred

- Competitive hourly wage (commensurate with experience) in the range of $35,000 to $50,000 per year with 27 to 36 hours a week regularly.
