Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) and ultimately to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), Physician Informaticists / Digital Health Leads will play a pivotal role on our medical informatics team, focusing on maximizing the clinical effectiveness and operational efficiency of our Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Health Information System (HIS) and other digital health tools. A Physician Informaticist will be responsible for supporting and enhancing EHR/HIS functionality, improving clinical workflows, and ensuring the effective integration of digital systems into everyday clinical practice. Successful candidates will be skilled in articulating physician/provider information technology needs and will work in partnership with the ACMIO, CMIO, and Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) to lead in the adoption of digital health technologies and practice change.
Qualifications of Physician Informaticist / Digital Health Lead
- Physician from SJHH professional staff currently licensed to practice in Ontario.
- Formal training in medical informatics or e-Health, and/or demonstrated experience with clinical information systems implementation or optimization, would be an asset.
- Understands the challenges and opportunities of informatics and can initiate and model positive change that inspires their colleagues to successfully adopt digital change.
- Has prior experience or interest in learning project management methodologies, clinical process analysis, and change management.
- Experience with inpatient, outpatient, and/or peri-operative workflows and direct patient care responsibilities in one or more of these areas demonstrating understanding of clinical care pathways, order management, and physician documentation.
- Experience with use of the Accuro electronic health record (EHR) and Epic health information system (HIS) would be an asset.
- Experience working effectively in a team-oriented environment, including learners.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Participation in clinical research or quality improvement studies would be an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serving as the domain expert for any activity that relates to clinical workflows.
- Supporting physicians and other credentialed staff to troubleshoot and identify opportunities for clinical information system improvements.
- Assisting with digital elements of physician and medical learner research and educational initiatives involving the HIS.
- Assisting, as needed, with updates and modification of HIS training materials for physicians.
- Collaborating with analysts to identify gaps and test changes to improve present and future clinical information system functionality for end users.
- Identifying EHR / HIS clinical practice workflow and process issues, concerns, and works with leadership to define system and process enhancements that will optimize system performance and technology utilization by clinical practitioners.
- Represent clinical specialties and medical informatics at relevant meetings (2-4 hours per month) and/or via email.

Length of Term
This is an interim 1-year position with potential term renewal and/or switch to non-interim position.
Time Commitment
The time commitment of this role will vary depending on active projects but is expected to average less than ½ day per week.
