Position Overview:
Reporting to the Infrastructure Technologies Manager, the Server Infrastructure Lead is responsible for providing leadership and
technical expertise in the design, implementation, and management of Manitoba Hydro server infrastructure. This role oversees the
planning, supervision, and assignment of work for team members engaged in Windows Server and Unix system administration. You
will manage and maintain enterprise server environments, including Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and
Solaris operating systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability. Additionally, the Server Infrastructure Lead is
accountable for maintaining the high availability and reliability of 24/7/365 server systems that support mission-critical business
applications. This position requires a proactive approach to system monitoring, security compliance, and performance optimization,
while fostering collaboration and adherence to industry best practices within the team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Windows Server Management and Unix Management sections in identifying, planning, prioritizing, allocating,
monitoring, and delivering on core enterprise workloads to ensure highly available, secure, and compliant technology
infrastructure.
- Participate in and supervise large, complex, enterprise-wide IT projects and technical upgrades, ensuring that server design,
implementation, and operational support meet enterprise requirements and expectations for business continuity, availability,
and disaster recovery.
- Enable server subject matter experts and teams across D&T to adopt automation with Ansible and System Center
Configuration Manager.
- Act as a lead server infrastructure resource to achieve the objectives of the COTSI replacement project.
- Provide authoritative advice in the preparation of procurement documents related to large equipment purchases, the
establishment of vendor of record contracts, and manage hardware and software maintenance renewals with the Value
Management Office.
- Ensure 24x7x365 support coverage for critical server systems. Ensure root causes for system faults and failures are identified
and fully addressed. Establish communication plans to provide clear and concise communication to key stakeholders in the
event of reliability incidents.
- Plan, schedule, and delegate work assignments within the various groups within D&T and across the enterprise.
- Prepare section business plans, budgets, workload and resource projections, and multi-year server infrastructure technology
roadmaps that address strategic short-term and long-term enterprise goals.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to develop, maintain, and promote technology standards, technical capability,
guidelines, guardrails, and enterprise reference architectures.
- Develop strong working relationships with industry contacts for the purpose of information exchange of new industry products
and technological developments.
- Understand, advocate, and augment Manitoba Hydro's enterprise architecture principles for on-premises and cloud
environments to ensure alignment across all Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to develop, maintain, and promote technology standards, technical capability,
guidelines, guardrails, and enterprise reference architectures.
