Under the direction of the Manager, Programs & Outreach, Newmarket Public Library, the Supervisor, Program & Outreach is responsible for the supervision and coordination of library programming & outreach for Newmarket Public Library including the evaluation and oversight of all programs and outreach ensuring a diverse and varied programming. The Supervisor, Programming & Outreach is also responsible for all Xplor functionality.

Job Requirements

Credentials

Completion of an accredited Library and Information Technician or 3-5 years’ experience in a library setting or customer service/people-oriented setting, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that is deemed necessary to successfully.

Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Access and internet applications.

Class G Driver’s license in good standing is an asset.

Knowledge/Skills Required

Experience in a non-profit environment, community organizing, event planning, community advocate or recreation environment Library knowledge, experience and education is an asset.

Previous sound experience in programming, marketing and social media, public speaking, and community engagement.

Knowledge of program planning and community engagement processes.

Experience supervising in a unionized environment is an asset.

Project management knowledge is an asset.

Demonstrated knowledge of staff supervision and development, team building, and conflict resolution.

Strong customer service skills with an ability to maintain composure regardless of the demands of the environment.

Strong, interpersonal, consultative, organizational, problem-solving, analytical and presentation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Thorough knowledge of community development and networking skills to develop partnerships with service clubs, not for profit, community organizations and private business partners.

Strong demonstrated knowledge of special events encompassing a wide range of community needs, emerging trends, and innovative opportunities.

Knowledge of procurement practices, policies, and procedures, as well as financial monitoring to work within budgeted resources. Experience in budget preparation and management of a budget.

Sound knowledge in research, statistics, and trend analysis.

Demonstrated experience with social media content creation.

Ability to work a flexible work week (including evenings and weekends) when required.

Knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, and the ability to interpret legislation such as Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Vital Statistics Act, Occupational Health, and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act and administrative bylaws.
