Reporting to the Purchasing and Warehouse Superintendent, the Buyer ensures the execution of procurement activities to support site operations. He or she is responsible for the entire purchase order cycle, including creation, tracking, and resolving discrepancies, while adhering to internal policies.
He or she maintains effective relationships with suppliers, tracks deliveries, and acts quickly to resolve issues. Working in a dynamic environment, the Buyer collaborates closely with the operations, warehouse, and planning teams to meet the site’s needs.
The position is based remotely or at the Montreal office, on a 5-2 schedule, with occasional visits to the site. Transportation, lodging, and meals are provided during travel.
Duties and responsibilities
- Comply with procurement policies, processes, and procedures;
- Purchase goods, equipment, and services;
- Meet with suppliers;
- Negotiate with suppliers (in French and English);
- Conduct total cost of ownership analyses;
- Develop various business case scenarios with departments involved in procurement;
- Define various procurement strategies;
- Identify new sources of supply;
- Create key performance indicators;
- Optimize transportation management in collaboration with warehouse supervisors;
- Collaborate on the inventory counting process;
- Create PowerPoint presentations;
- Participate in inventory optimization;
- Conduct audits (internal and external);
- Resolve invoice issues in collaboration with Accounts Payable and the requesting departments;
- Participate in the bidding process;
- Participate in continuous improvement projects;
- Manage the entire purchase order cycle, including creation, tracking, and closure;
- Comply at all times with health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations;
- Assist requesters as needed;
- Perform any other tasks related to the buyer position that are relevant to the project's success.
Required qualifications
- Hold a DEC in administration; a combination of experience and education may also be considered;
- Have (5) years of experience in a similar position;
- In-depth knowledge of Incoterms;
- Knowledge of the mining industry (an asset);
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
- Bilingualism (French and English). Will be required to work with English-speaking suppliers.
Technical skills
- Ability to adapt to changes in IT systems;
- Solid knowledge of procurement processes and best practices in an operational environment;
- Knowledge of SAP (a plus);
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Basic skills
- Possess excellent teamwork skills and the ability to build harmonious relationships with colleagues and various suppliers;
- Possess strong organizational, planning, and priority-setting skills;
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Negotiation skills and political acumen;
