Role Summary
The Retail Associate is responsible for delivering a strong, confident retail experience during daytime operations at Born to Shake. This role is customer-facing, product-driven, and detail-oriented, with a clear focus on sales, merchandising, inventory accuracy, and brand representation.
This role is not a bar or service role. Retail hours, expectations, and accountability are distinct from BTS evening operations.
Core Responsibilities:
Customer Experience & Sales
- Greet and engage all retail customers promptly and confidently
- Educate customers on: Cocktail syrups, rimmers, bitters, tools, glassware; "how-to-use", pairings, gifting ideas, and upsells
- Actively drive sales through: Product recommendations, Bundles and gift sets, Seasonal or featured items
- Process retail transactions accurately through POS
- Maintain a welcoming, calm, knowledgeable retail presence
Merchandising & Store Presentation
- Maintain visual standards of the retail space: Shelving, labels, signage, pricing; Cleanliness and organization
- Restock shelves daily and flag low inventory
- Support seasonal resets, promotions, and new product launches
- Ensure retail space reflects the Born to Shake brand at all times
Inventory & Product Handling
- Receive and put away retail inventory accurately
- Assist with retail counts and spot checks as scheduled
- Report: Low stock, damaged product, discrepancies or errors
- Follow proper handling, rotation, and storage procedures
Operations & Admin
- Open and close the retail space according to checklist
- Maintain cleanliness of retail-only areas
- Follow cash handling and reconciliation procedures
- Communicate clearly with management regarding: Issues, Customer feedback, Operational gaps
Expectations & Accountability
- Punctual, reliable, and prepared for every shift
- Comfortable speaking about products with confidence
- Able to follow systems, checklists, and standards
- Takes ownership of mistakes and asks questions early
- Communicates respectfully and professionally with team and leadership
Experience & Skills / Requirements
- Retail, hospitality, or customer-facing experience preferred
- Sales confidence is a must - this is not a passive role
- Interest in food, cocktails, or gifting is a strong asset
- Demonstrated time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently during slower retail hours
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable with attention to detail in merchandising and stock management
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Familiarity with POS systems, cashiering procedures, and cash handling protocols
Pay: $18.25-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12.0 – 25.0 per week
