Position Title: Community Centre Janitor

Summary:
The Community Centre Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the Community Centre. The incumbent performs daily, weekly, seasonal, and event-related cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure community members, staff, visitors, and program participants have access to a well-maintained facility.
Working independently and collaboratively with Community Centre staff and Public Works personnel, the Community Centre Janitor supports the efficient operation of the facility through custodial services, safety inspections, supply management, minor maintenance, and event support activities.
Responsibilities:
- Clean and disinfect washrooms, sinks, toilets, fixtures, and floors.
- Dust and wipe surfaces including desks, tables, counters, shelves, and equipment.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and maintain floors, carpets, and common areas.
- Empty garbage and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Replenish washroom and cleaning supplies.
- Assist with room set-up and tear-down for community events, meetings, and programs.
- Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance concerns, hazards, or required repairs.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Maintain organized janitorial storage areas and monitor cleaning supplies.
- Perform seasonal duties including snow removal, salting, sanding, and maintaining entrances and exits.
- Ensure the facility is secure by locking doors, setting alarms, and conducting security checks.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), GED, or equivalent.
- WHMIS Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Previous janitorial, custodial, facility maintenance, or related experience is preferred.
- Experience operating cleaning equipment is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and move equipment and supplies.
- Must have a clear Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- First Nation membership and knowledge of Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
