Shop Assistant
In The Backyard is looking for a reliable and hardworking Woodworking Shop Assistant to join our team. This position is based in our wood shop and involves assisting with the preparation and building of shed components, including trusses, doors, wall sections, trim, and painted materials.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, has basic tool knowledge, and is interested in working in the construction/woodworking industry.
Responsibilities
The Woodworking Shop Assistant will help with:
- Building shed trusses, doors, trim, and other wood components
- Cutting materials using a table saw, mitre saw, and other shop tools
- Using power hand tools such as drills, circular saws, impact drivers, and nailers
- Painting shed components and preparing materials for installation
- Organizing materials and keeping the shop clean and safe
- Loading and unloading materials
- Assisting with general shop duties as needed
- Following instructions from the shop lead or production manager
Requirements
- Must be comfortable using a table saw, mitre saw, and power hand tools
- Basic woodworking or construction knowledge is preferred
- Ability to read basic measurements and use a tape measure accurately
- Strong attention to detail
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
- Able to lift materials and work on your feet throughout the day
- Must work well as part of a team
Assets
- Previous woodworking, carpentry, or construction experience
- Experience building doors, trusses, framing, or shed components
- Painting or finishing experience
- Forklift experience is helpful but not required
Experience Level
Experience is an asset, but we are willing to train the right person. The ideal candidate has a good attitude, works safely, and is eager to learn.
Work Environment
This position is based in a woodworking shop environment. The successful candidate should be comfortable working around tools, lumber, sawdust, paint, and construction materials.
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
