Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging – Victoria Data Collection Site (DCS)
Background
The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is a national study of aging that has recruited over 50,000 individuals across Canada. Participants are being followed for 20 years. The University of Victoria (UVic) supports 1 of 11 comprehensive data collection sites, currently located at the Gorge Road Health Centre. Information is being collected from participants using a combination of interviews and physical assessments. We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will support the efficient conduct of studies, maintain data accuracy, and adhere to all ethical standards.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Completing required training for the position
- Answering telephones, booking/managing appointments, and responding to inquiries as necessary
- Welcoming, checking-in and checking-out participants
- Following standard operating procedures to conduct a variety of physical assessments and questionnaires
- Entering participant data and information accurately using study specific software programs
- Complying with quality standards according to standard operating procedures
- Performing regular operation, maintenance, calibration, cleaning, and quality control of equipment
- Discussing any questions or concerns related to the project and/or study participants with the Site Coordinator
- Participating in regular site meetings and training sessions to ensure the smooth execution of the study
Requirements & Skills
- Able and willing to work in-person and on-site at the Gorge Road Health Centre
- Reliable and professional, able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining data accuracy and confidentiality
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Able to multi-task and adapt to changes in task requirements
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with hardware and software in a PC environment
- Able to adapt to technological changes
- Willing to work during the day, early evenings and on Saturdays as required
- Research experience is an asset
- Experience working with older adults is an asset
- A degree in a relevant field (e.g., life sciences, nursing, public health, or a related discipline) is an asset
- Previous experience in clinical research or healthcare settings is an asset.
Terms of employment
- This is a part-time, grant-funded position of approximately 15-20 hours per week through December 15, 2026, with the possibility of an extension and transition to a full-time position
Salary
- Salary will be commensurate with experience, starting at $22-$24 per hour.
