Job Summary:
The CNC Laser Programmer / Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC laser cutting equipment to produce precision sheet metal components that meet established quality and production requirements. This role operates an Amada 3015 6kW Fiber Laser equipped with an automated material loading system and supports programming activities using Amada Dr. ABE software.
This position is suited to either an experienced CNC Laser Programmer / Operator or an experienced CNC laser operator who demonstrates the technical aptitude and desire to develop advanced programming and nesting skills. The successful candidate will work in a high-mix manufacturing environment and be responsible for balancing material utilization, machine efficiency, part quality, and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complies with company policies, safety standards, and ISO procedures while performing duties.
- Program, set up, and operate the Amada 3015 6kW Fiber Laser and automated material loading system.
- Perform deburring operations on parts to ensure quality product moves to the next work centre operation.
- Develop and modify CNC laser nest programs using Amada Dr. ABE programming software.
- Perform manual and automatic nesting of components to optimize material utilization and production efficiency.
- Review engineering drawings, revision & release levels, CAD files, material specifications, and production requirements prior to programming and processing.
- Select appropriate cutting parameters and machine settings based on material type, thickness, geometry, and quality requirements.
- Set up and verify programs prior to production, including first-piece validation.
- Monitor laser cutting operations and make adjustments as required to maintain cut quality and productivity.
- Troubleshoot cutting conditions, machine alarms, material handling issues, programming problems, and part quality concerns.
- Perform in-process inspections using appropriate precision measuring equipment to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Monitor material utilization and identify opportunities to improve nesting efficiency and reduce scrap.
- Coordinate production priorities with Team Leads, Supervisors, and other manufacturing departments.
- · Maintain machine uptime by proactively identifying and communicating maintenance or equipment concerns.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to programming, machine utilization, material yield, quality, and productivity.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Equipment & Process Scope:
- Amada 3015 6kW Fiber Laser.
- Automated sheet loading and material handling system.
- Amada Dr. ABE CNC laser programming and nesting software.
- Manual and automatic nesting of sheet metal components.
- Processing of various sheet metal materials and thicknesses.
- Precision measurement and first-piece inspection.
Quality & Safety:
- Ensures all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
- Follows ISO quality standards, work instructions, and inspection processes.
- Verifies part dimensions, features, cut quality, and material requirements using appropriate inspection equipment.
- Ensures correct material type, grade, thickness, and quantity are processed according to production documentation.
- Identifies and reports safety concerns, equipment issues, material discrepancies, and quality concerns promptly.
- Maintains accurate production and quality documentation as required.
Team Support & Communication:
- Works effectively within a team environment to support production goals and customer delivery requirements.
- Communicates clearly with Team Leads, Supervisors, Engineering, Quality, and other operators regarding production status and technical issues.
- Works collaboratively with Engineering and Production to resolve programming, nesting, and manufacturability concerns.
- Assists in training and supporting less experienced operators as knowledge and experience develop.
- Contributes to a positive, professional, and continuous improvement-focused shop environment.
Skill Requirement:
- Three (3) to ten (10) years of CNC laser cutting, programming, or related sheet metal manufacturing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience operating CNC fiber laser cutting equipment.
- Amada CNC laser operating experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Amada Dr. ABE programming and nesting software considered a strong asset.
- CNC laser operator with demonstrated technical aptitude and a strong desire to develop programming skills will be considered.
- Ability to develop and optimize manual and automatic nests with consideration for material utilization, part quality, production requirements, and downstream manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of laser cutting fundamentals, including material types, thicknesses, cutting parameters, assist gases, consumables, Lense care and cut-quality troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and other applicable inspection tools.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn CNC programming and manufacturing software.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple production priorities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Effort & Physical Requirements:
- Hands-on role requiring regular interaction with CNC equipment and material handling systems.
- May be required to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift materials, tooling, or components up to 40 lbs.
- May require bending, crouching, reaching, and repetitive movements.
- Exposure to manufacturing environment conditions including noise and temperature variations.
- Hands-on, results-oriented individual with strong attention to detail.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of a manufacturing, machining, CNC programming, engineering technology, or related technical program considered an asset.
- Three (3) to ten (10) years of CNC laser cutting, programming, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
- Previous experience with Amada laser cutting equipment considered a strong asset.
- Previous experience with Amada Dr. ABE programming software considered a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.

This position is located in Princeton, Ontario, just 25 minutes from Kitchener/Cambridge and 10 minutes from Brantford.
