We are a Kelowna based non-profit that provides outdoor recreation programs to youth that provide instruction and life skill development through mentorship and play.
We have paired with HUB Cycling to deliver the the Everyone Rides program to schools in Kelowna and we're looking for energetic and passionate instructors to facilitate our this bike education program!
Position Summary:
Bike Education Program Facilitators work on a seasonal basis and teach a variety of bike safety courses. In their first season, new instructors work the Everyone Rides program, which are delivered to elementary school students (Grades 3-6) during school hours. Instructors may work individually to teach in-class lessons or as part of a small team when teaching outdoor on-bike skills. Successful instructors believe in the multi-faceted benefits of cycling, bring enthusiasm and professionalism, and get joy from being active alongside children.
The role is part-time, with on average 1 shift/week, though the number of shifts may vary from week to week depending on an instructor’s availability, school holidays, and programming needs. Instructors travel within the Okanagan to instruct courses, and can expect some early morning start times to reach schools by the start of their day. Some shifts may include training, transporting bicycles, helmets, and special equipment, although owning a vehicle is not required. The position is seasonal, recurring in the fall (September - October) and spring (April - June)

Bonus points if you have:
- Led children or youth programs in the past for cycling or other activities.
- Basic bike maintenance knowledge or professional experience.
- A BC driver's licence and feel comfortable driving a minivan and bike trailer.
You'll also need:
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification or equivalency, or a willingness to self-organize and obtain (note: this course is more comprehensive than, and not equivalent to, Emergency First Aid or Occupational First Aid Level 1).
- Everyone Rides Instructor certification training held before the start of the season (first week/weekend of Sept 2026)
- Clear Criminal Record Check for the vulnerable sector.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- English fluency.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds for work.
- Reliable access to a bicycle and helmet.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Teach bicycle safety: Deliver HUB’s core curriculums to participants across the Okanagan region, in a safe, engaging, and professional manner.
- Encourage cycling: Motivate a diverse range of participants to see cycling as a viable mode of transportation.
- Transport and set up equipment: Load, unload and transport equipment to programs using cargo vans (including bikes, helmets, station materials), and set up activities in advance of the sessions.
- Prepare for programs: Take advantage of paid training and prep time to become comfortable and confident with the recurring curriculums as well as the unique details of individual programs.
- Communicate with all staff: While at programs, instructors are relied upon to ensure everyone involved is on the same page. They also provide key insight into the challenges, successes, incidents, along with physical documents to members of the Bike Ed. Organizer team.
Schedules & Locations:
Weekly Schedules: Part-time (typically 1-2 days/week) positions are offered. The variability in the number of shifts is dependent on an instructor’s availability, school holidays, and programming needs. Schedules will be released for the season once instructors complete training in August (tentative training dates are Sept 3-5, 2026).
Locations: Elementary schools in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, Summerland, Peachland, Penticton and other surrounding communities.
Mandatory Training Schedule:
Training dates are tentatively set for Sept 3rd - 5th - will be a mixture of online and in-person sessions. Successful applicants must be able to attend this training.
The role will primarily be during school hours Monday - Friday, during September and October - returning in the Spring for the next cycle if available. Hours may fluctuate each week depending on the number of schools we have programs running in on any given week.

Projected Start: Sept 1, 2026. Starts with onboarding and mandatory training (Sept 3 - 5, 2026), with shifts beginning in September.
Projected End: End of October 2026, with the opportunity to join again in the spring season (April - June 2027) and onward.
Compensation: Instructors start at $24/hour
