Summary: The Manager, Production Finance is responsible for the day-to-day development and production needs for both the Scripted and Unscripted divisions. This candidate will have a strong background in television and film production as well as tax credits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and reconcile development cost reports in collaboration with Development Executives and Business Affairs
- Maintain and update tracking of unfunded development costs and provide analysis to support decision-making with the VP of Development
- Review supporting documentation and approvals for vendor payments, third-party invoices, and payroll processing
- Prepares production cashflows
- Review corporate credit card reconciliations and ensure expenses are accurately coded to projects and general ledger accounts
- Ensure the set up for a new production and appropriate payroll and employer health tax accounts to comply with government agencies and guild remittances (as applicable)
- Monitor production cost reports, identify budget variances, and collaborate with Head of Production and Producers
- Prepare labour schedules for federal and provincial tax credit applications
- Oversee and act as a key resource to production accountants on company’s policies and procedures
- Responsible for day-to-day production accounting to support Production needs
- Liaise with external auditors and government agencies to provide supporting documentation during audit requests
- Partner with the Head of Finance to support corporate tax filings and maximize available production tax credits and incentives
- Ensure monthly and quarterly production financial activities are accurately reconciled and revenue is recognized in accordance with applicable accounting standards
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and onboarding as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in similar role in media and television
- CPA designation or equivalent (highly desirable)
- Progressive leadership experience in production finance, production accounting, or media finance
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and with high standards for work quality
- Self-motivated with good work ethic and willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Proficient in Excel and other tools as appropriate
- Systems Experience : Smart Accounting (an asset)
