Veterinary Assistant
White oaks Animal Hospital is seeking a dependable and experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our small-animal veterinary team.
This is a hands-on clinical support position in a busy veterinary practice. We are specifically looking for someone who already understands the day-to-day environment of a veterinary clinic and is comfortable working directly with dogs and cats.
This is not a receptionist-only or kennel-only position.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following:
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on employment in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital; OR
- Completion of a recognized Veterinary Assistant program with substantial hands-on clinical placement experience
Applicants should also:
- Have experience safely handling and restraining dogs and cats
- Be comfortable around blood, urine, feces, vomit, wounds and surgical patients
- Be able to clean and disinfect clinical areas thoroughly
- Be able to work on their feet in a fast-paced environment
- Be reliable, punctual and organized
- Communicate professionally with clients and coworkers
- Be able to work the advertised schedule, including [Saturdays/evenings, if applicable]
Responsibilities
Duties may include:
- Safely handling and restraining dogs and cats
- Assisting veterinarians and technicians during examinations and procedures
- Preparing examination and treatment rooms
- Weighing patients and assisting with patient intake
- Preparing patients and supplies for procedures
- Assisting with sample collection and handling as directed
- Preparing laboratory samples
- Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, treatment areas and examination rooms
- Cleaning, wrapping and preparing surgical instruments
- Maintaining surgical and treatment-area cleanliness
- Providing basic hospitalized-patient care as directed
- Feeding, walking and monitoring hospitalized or boarding animals
- Laundry and general hospital sanitation
- Restocking examination rooms and treatment areas
- Maintaining organized medical and clinical supplies
- Assisting with inventory
- Answering phones or assisting reception when required
- Entering accurate information into the veterinary practice-management system
- Supporting the veterinary team wherever needed during busy periods
Experience with AVImark or another veterinary practice-management system is an asset.

Compensation: $ 18 –$ 22 per hour depending on experience
