Position Overview
ConPro Contracting LTD is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Estimator to lead pre-construction and cost development from initial client contact through tender award. This role is responsible for interpreting drawings, preparing accurate estimates, managing the tender process, and identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining ConPro’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Meet with clients to review project scope, timelines, and expectations
- Interpret architectural drawings, structural details, and specifications
- Prepare accurate cost estimates using Buildertrend and internal systems
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Prepare and issue tender packages to subcontractors and vendors
- Review and level bids to ensure completeness and competitiveness
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards
Procurement Support
- Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors
- Maintain up-to-date pricing and supplier databases to support fast, accurate estimates
- Coordinate with the project management team to ensure estimates align with procurement and scheduling realities
Cost & Budget Analysis
- Establish project budgets and target profit margins at the estimating stage
- Provide detailed cost breakdowns to support job costing and financial planning
- Support change order pricing and review with the project management team
- Work with ownership to review estimating accuracy and financial performance
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, consultants, and trades during pre-construction
- Present and explain estimates, scope, and value-engineering options to clients
- Manage client expectations on pricing and scope throughout the bidding process
Qualifications
- 3–7+ years experience in construction estimating and/or project management
- Strong understanding of residential and light commercial construction
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts
- Experience with Buildertrend or similar estimating/project management software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and local construction practices
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in design-build environments
- Established relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers
- Strong background in estimating, tendering, and cost control
- Familiarity with cost-tracking and project management tools
