Our Application Specialist position plays a critical role in providing industry leading additive manufacturing services to our customers, leveraging the latest AM technologies (e.g., FDM, DLP, DMLS, SLS, SLA, PolyJet). We support industry leaders in aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and more. This position is primarily customer-driven (approximately 65% desk-based quoting, RFQ intake, and order coordination) with a hands-on component (approximately 35% shop-based support) to help execute work, maintain quality, and support continuous improvement. The successful candidate is detail-oriented and self-motivated, thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and communicates clearly with customers and internal stakeholders.
Role Focus: Primary accountability is to deliver accurate quotes and strong customer communication; secondary accountability is to support production execution and shop operations in a small, high-performing team. An Applications Specialist must grow their knowledge to be able to recommend TriMech’s full portfolio of services.
- Own RFQ intake and discovery: manage customer calls/emails, clarify requirements, and ensure complete information for accurate quoting for Canadian Additive Manufacturing Services
- Prepare accurate, timely quotes for in-house additive manufacturing capabilities and outsourced manufacturing/post-processing services.
- Use a needs-based approach to recommend the right technology, material, and post-processing path
- Generate prototype and service quotes based on customer applications, drawings/models, tolerances, and performance requirements; provide thorough follow-up and expectation-setting
- Partner with the Manager/Team Lead on pricing strategy, exceptions (e.g., volume pricing), approval thresholds, and key account/high-value quotes
- Coordinate outsourced manufacturing and post-processing with external service providers, including sourcing, quote collection, lead times, supplier communication, and project-level coordination (scope, schedule, documentation, and quality expectations)
Contribute to AMS resources and continuous improvement: design guides, best practices, standard work/SOPs, quoting tools, and process recommendations

- Post-sale project and order management:
- Maintain accurate order status and task updates in PM tools; coordinate daily priorities with Project Managers/Team Lead
- Machine operation, support removal, part cleaning
- Perform finishing and post-processing on customer & in-house projects; support removal, bonding, sanding, painting, hardware installation, advanced finishing processes
- Part inspection & other QC tasks
- Liaise with Customer Support team to coordinate order fulfillment and shipping
- Warehouse and material management; liaise with manager/shop techs to ensure ample stock of consumables
- Contribute to cleanliness of shop; general housekeeping, other duties as required
- Assist with daily, weekly, monthly machine maintenance as needed
- Degree or diploma in: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technologist, Mechanical or related fields
- 2-5 years of experience in estimating and/or a manufacturing role preferred (automotive and/or aerospace experience is an asset)
- Key hard skills include:
- Estimating/quoting experience: interpreting customer requirements, communicating scope
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings is essential; Knowledge of GD&T is an asset
- Proficient in one or more CAD applications; SolidWorks preferred
- Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience an asset.
- Familiarity with hosted CRM systems; NetSuite/Salesforce experience an asset
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing technologies and workflows (e.g. FDM, DLP, DMLS, SLS, SLA); exposure to platforms such as Stratasys and/or Formlabs is an asset
- Key soft skills include:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Hands-on approach, “roll up your sleeves” attitude
- Professionalism is essential, understanding of outward presentation to clients a must
- Ability to multi-task and independently prioritize tasks is essential to success in this role
- Strong analytical mindset: excellent trouble-shooter and practical problem-solver; identifies process gaps and proposes improvements
- Other Requirements:
- Hold valid driver’s license; able to commute independently/have access to a vehicle
- In-Office work; expectation is in office daily
- Ability to work safely in a production environment and follow all site safety policies and procedures
- Occasional travel may be required; ability to travel to US a requirement
