Summary:
Thompson House has opening for the positions of RPN Part-Time (Day, Evening and Night). This positions will be responsible for performing a variety of nursing services including supervision of direct care staff in support of the resident’s health and well-being. The successful candidate must ensure compliance with government regulations. The position requires the successful candidate to work daily shifts.
This position is governed by the SEIU collective agreement.
The Successful Candidate For This Position Must Have The Following Qualifications:
- Current Certification of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Experience with Point Click Care or other electronic health care record software
- Certificate in Gerontology is considered an asset
The Successful Candidate For This Position Must Be Able To:
- Direct and supervise PSWs.
- Actively seek out necessary information to accomplish job responsibilities/standards of performance.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to utilization, maintenance, and cost of equipment and supplies pertinent to the nursing department.
- Participate in orientation of new staff to the Home/unit.
- Provide input to nursing and the multidisciplinary team to help develop individualized plans of care for the residents.
- Carry out interventions according to the care plan within their scope of practice.
- Assess, measure, document and communicate changes in the resident’s physical, mental or emotional condition using Point Click Care/RAI MDS.
- Conduct regular rounds and through interviews and observations, maintain a full knowledge of each resident’s conditions, activities and changing needs. Evaluate nursing interventions in relation to the stated goals.
- Administer medication in compliance with the policies of the Home and the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Ensure the safe keeping of drugs and narcotics in compliance with the CNO and policies and procedures of Thompson House.
- Maintain all residents’ records (both paper and computerized) in compliance with the policies of the Home and standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Transcribe doctor’s orders. Ensure that the transcription of orders is carried out promptly and accurately. Seek clarification if necessary.
- Assist as necessary with personal care of residents.
- Supervise meal times.
- Ensure that the direct care staff is fully informed of their resident’s conditions and needs through a verbal report, accurate up to date assignment sheets and care conferences.
- Communicate with resident’s families to inform them of changes, incidents, hospitalizations, and needs in a tactful, empathetic manner.
