We are looking for a Purchaser who can keep materials, equipment, and technical products moving through a fast-paced industrial environment. You will support both projects and aftermarket sales, working with suppliers and internal teams to make sure the right products arrive at the right quality, quantity, cost, and time.
This role goes beyond issuing purchase orders. You will source products, compare suppliers, work through technical requirements, negotiate pricing and lead times, manage shortages and delays, and solve the purchasing issues that inevitably come up along the way.
Being comfortable working with technical and industrial products such as valves, fittings, pumps, pipe, instrumentation, electrical components, mechanical parts, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials is an asset or it is something you are genuinely interested in learning.
If you are organized, persistent with follow-up, and enjoy figuring out how to get the right product to the right place when it is needed, you could be a great fit for this role.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
Source & Purchase
Review project requirements, sales orders, inventory needs, purchase requisitions, and replenishment signals to determine what needs to be purchased and when.
Evaluate Suppliers
Request and compare quotations based on more than price, considering availability, quality, freight, lead time, technical compliance, and supplier reliability.
Manage Purchase Orders
Create and issue accurate purchase orders through our ERP system and confirm pricing, quantities, specifications, acknowledgements, and delivery dates.
Keep Orders Moving
Monitor and expedite open purchase orders, following up proactively when deliveries are late, short, damaged, incorrect, or at risk of impacting a project or customer.
Solve Supply Problems
Work with suppliers, Warehouse, Operations, Projects, Sales, and other internal teams to resolve shortages, substitutions, delivery issues, returns, credits, warranty concerns, and non-conforming products.
Control Costs
Look for opportunities to improve purchasing outcomes through competitive sourcing, supplier negotiations, alternative products, order consolidation, and freight optimization.
Build Supplier Relationships
Develop productive supplier relationships while maintaining clear expectations around pricing, quality, communication, service, and delivery performance.
Maintain Purchasing Accuracy
Keep purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, order details, and ERP data accurate and current.
We're looking for someone with:
- 2–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory, vendor management, or a related role.
- Hands-on experience preparing and managing purchase orders, supplier quotations, and order acknowledgements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple orders, priorities, and deadlines at the same time.
- Strong follow-through. You do not wait for a missed delivery date to start asking questions.
- Confidence communicating and negotiating with suppliers.
- Strong problem-solving skills when dealing with availability, pricing, quality, freight, or delivery issues.
- A high degree of accuracy when reviewing specifications, pricing, quantities, and purchasing data.
- Experience working with an ERP system for purchasing, inventory, or order management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
- The ability to stay calm, organized, and solutions-focused when priorities change or several urgent needs compete for attention.
We'd Be Especially Interested If You Have
- Experience in industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction, mining, or another technical product environment.
- Experience reviewing technical specifications, drawings, data sheets, bills of materials, or customer requirements.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, or a comparable ERP platform.
- Knowledge of freight, shipping terms, supplier lead times, and inventory replenishment practices.
- An SCMP, SMT, Parts Technician Journeyperson certification, or progress toward a relevant supply-chain or trades designation.
What Success Looks Like
You know what is coming before it becomes urgent. Purchase orders are accurate. Suppliers know what is expected. Internal teams know where their materials stand. Potential shortages and delays are identified early, and when something does go sideways, you take ownership of finding a solution.
You understand that good purchasing is not simply about finding the lowest price. It is about balancing cost, quality, availability, service, technical requirements, and risk to make the best decision for the business.
Most importantly, you are someone people can rely on to follow through.
