As part of our growth and quality excellence strategy, we are currently seeking a Quality Assurance Lead to oversee our QA/QC efforts and drive continuous improvement within our engineering and production teams.
Job Overview
The Quality Assurance Lead plays a key role in ensuring all precast concrete products meet or exceed internal and industry quality standards. This position combines leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on involvement in quality control and mould readiness. The successful candidate will supervise the QA team, oversee inspections and testing, guide corrective actions, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory and certifying bodies.
This role supports both the daily production schedule and long-term quality improvements, while actively contributing to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Quality Assurance (QA) Team
- Supervise daily tasks and testing performed by QA personnel
- Ensure completion and accuracy of concrete batch reports, plastic concrete tests, and reinforcement checks
- Review and greenlight forms for first pours (FAI inspections), ensuring proper tolerance, cleanliness, and safety
- Manage pre-pour, post-pour, and product storage inspections
- Provide daily directions to the QA team to balance urgent production issues with ongoing quality checks
- Maintain calibration records and ensure laboratory equipment is compliant and operational
- Prepare and deliver quality reports to internal teams and management
Ensure Compliance with Standards & Specifications
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPCI, CSA, PCI, and other certifying body requirements
- Oversee documentation of all QA data and maintain organized records
- Participate in annual certifications, audits, and inspections
- Support project setup to ensure quality expectations are built into processes
- Stay current with continuing education to maintain professional certifications
Manage and Improve Non-Conformance Processes
- Lead the investigation and documentation of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Identify root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and implement process improvements
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and sales to minimize scrap and save non-conforming products where possible
- Provide monthly and annual NCR reporting, including cost estimates, product trends, and team education efforts
- Attend customer sites as needed to resolve quality concerns and provide technical support
Develop and Manage Internal Quality Certification Program
- Design and implement internal quality training and certification for staff across departments
- Track and manage certification records, provide refresher training, and maintain program standards
- Audit certified employees’ work to ensure quality accountability across all teams
Mould Design and Readiness
- Ensure all formwork is designed to meet quality, durability, and production efficiency standards
- Conduct FAI inspections on new moulds, checking for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, proper bracing and reinforcing, and safety compliance
- Provide recommendations to improve form design based on past non-conformances, production challenges, or safety feedback
- Ensure moulds are reinforced to withstand hydraulic pressure, free from debris, and compliant with job-specific requirements before first use
- Coordinate with the Mould Shop to prioritize modifications, repairs, and readiness for scheduled pours
- Lead form innovation by contributing ideas to improve reusability, ease of handling, and product consistency
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of concrete testing, reinforcement requirements, and mould inspection standards
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Comfortable balancing short-term tasks with long-term quality initiatives
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook); database and report generation experience
- Use of AutoCad or similar software for designing new moulds and replacement components on existing forms
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to prioritize work under pressure
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Positive, proactive, and team-focused approach
- Collaborate with management to address performance issues or re-certification needs
Qualifications & Experience
- Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma (minimum)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred
- ACI Level 1 and PCI Level 2 certification (required minimum)
- Minimum 2 years of inspection experience; 4 years in precast or concrete industry preferred
- Experience leading or supervising a technical team is a strong asset
- Site experience with reinforced concrete or construction is an asset
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
· Combination of plant floor and office work
· Lead the Quality Assurance (QA) Team and supervise inspections, testing, reporting, and calibration activities
· Exposure to a noisy, dusty, and fast paced environment
· Sometime spent at the computer for reporting and documentation
· May occasionally visit job sites, including interaction with customers
· Strong knowledge of concrete testing, reinforcement requirements, mould inspection standards
