About Fortress Iron Works
At Fortress Iron Works, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, precision steel fabrication for our clients. We tackle complex projects with a focus on safety, efficiency, and exceptional craftsmanship. We are currently looking for a strong, experienced Steel Fabrication Foreman to lead our shop floor, drive production, and mentor our team of fabricators and welders.
The Role
As the Steel Fabrication Foreman, you will be the driving force on the shop floor. You will oversee daily operations, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will balance hands-on expertise with strong leadership, acting as the bridge between project management and the fabrication team.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and direct a team of welders, fitters, and apprentices.
- Production Management: Plan daily shop activities, assign tasks, and monitor workflow to meet strict project deadlines.
- Quality Control: Inspect ongoing and finished work to ensure it meets structural blueprints, shop drawings, and CWB standards.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex structural steel blueprints and shop drawings, ensuring the floor team understands the specifications.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce all WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety policies. Conduct regular toolbox talks and maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Material & Equipment Management: Oversee inventory management, ensure materials are staged efficiently, and coordinate maintenance for shop machinery (press brakes, shears, welding units, etc.).
- Reporting: Track team hours, material usage, and project progress, reporting directly to the operations manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Trade Certification: Red Seal Journeyman Metal Fabricator (Fitter) or Welder ticket is required.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) standards and welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, SMAW).
- Blueprint Proficiency: Expert ability to read and interpret complex shop drawings and structural blueprints.
- Leadership: Proven ability to motivate a crew, resolve conflicts on the floor, and maintain a high-performance culture.
- Communication: Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and operate heavy machinery.
