MCG Careers, Inc. is seeking a Full-time Controller on behalf of our employer partner (in the Winning Edge-Workplace Training Program), one of Alberta's fastest-growing express car wash operators, proudly owning and operating six state-of-the-art locations across Calgary and Edmonton. The Controller is responsible for the integrity of the company's financial information and the day-to-day leadership of the accounting function. This hands-on role owns financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, payroll administration, internal controls, compliance, and continuous process improvement. The Controller partners with the Vice President of Finance to build scalable financial processes that support organizational growth.
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses.
- Review revenue and expense activity for accuracy.
- Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Monitor cash flow and support budgeting and forecasting.
- Prepare management reports and financial analysis.
- Review and approve Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions.
- Support year-end audits and recommend accounting solutions.
Payroll Administration & Compliance
- Own the end-to-end payroll function.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule.
- Manage CRA remittances, T4s, ROEs, benefits, and payroll reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian payroll legislation.
- Maintain payroll procedures and support payroll system improvements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to the AP/AR Coordinator.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations.
- Mentor and develop the AP/AR Coordinator.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures and best practices.
- Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls.
- Develop and update accounting policies and procedures.
- Support external audits.
- Maintain audit-ready financial records.
- Complete regulatory filings accurately and on time.
- Monitor financial risks and recommend improvements.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting and payroll processes.
- Implement automation where practical.
- Support ERP enhancements.
- Improve reporting efficiency.
- Build scalable accounting processes.
Operational & Financial Support
- Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights.
- Support budgeting and forecasting.
- Prepare variance analysis and recommendations.
- Support strategic initiatives through financial analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation in progress is preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close.
- Canadian experience in payroll processing and administration.
- Experience with ERP/accounting software.
- Experience in a multi-location business is an asset.
- Experience mentoring, coordinating, or guiding others is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, payroll legislation, and advanced Excel.

Winning Edge – Workplace Training Program Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity through the Winning Edge Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen.
- Must be unemployed at the time of intake.
- Ready, willing, and able to work full-time (up to 40 hours/week).
- Not a current student or enrolled in any program or school.
