We are a well‑established construction company seeking a reliable, experienced, and responsible Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator. This is a long‑term position for someone who is confident working independently and will be the primary point of contact for all financial and payroll matters.
Responsibility includes management of full bookkeeping cycle with accuracy, professionalism, and strong personal accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for 40–80 employees, ensuring accurate time‑entry, deductions, benefits, and compliance with legislation and collective agreements
- Maintain employee records (new hires, terminations, pay changes) and respond to payroll‑related inquiries
- Prepare and submit government filings: source deductions, WSIB, EHT, ROEs, T4/T4A, T2200, as well as union dues
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including job‑cost allocations
- Prepare construction project billings using Schedule of Values (SOV), progress billing, and supporting documentation
- Prepare vendor payments and resolve invoice discrepancies
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Prepare monthly HST/GST filings
- Use Excel to create and maintain spreadsheets for payroll validation, job costing, and reporting
- Support year‑end processes and work with external accountants
- Communicate professionally with employees, vendors, and external partners
Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong payroll processing experience (construction or unionized environment is an asset)
- Solid understanding of AP/AR, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop)
- High level of accuracy, responsibility
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities without daily supervision
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
