As our General Manager, you'll be the face of our venue—crafting relationships, driving revenue, and ensuring exceptional experiences from first inquiry to final applause. Your role spans sales strategy, guest experience, and seamless collaboration with our culinary team and head office to bring detailed, memorable events to life. You will lead the daily operations, and this role is floor-forward. Running service, supporting our venue partners, coaching the team and building knowledge of our catering and event services program.
This position services our two Hamilton venues: The Birmingham and The Art Gallery of Hamilton. With opportunities for growth within our company servicing other venues around Ontario.

- Lead events on the floor, supervise and coordinate the food and beverage operations
- Maintain high standards for speed of service, beverage program, cleanliness, service and hospitality
- Supervise daily venue operations, including food preparation, and food handling
- Oversee food safety protocols and ensure compliance with health regulations and compliance with AGCO
- Drive Sales and Business Development
- Manage the POS systems and cash handling
- Conduct day-to-day leadership and management, as directed by VP, Catering & Venue Operations
- Be accountable for financials and KPIs
- Hire, train, schedule event staff front of house and back of house
- Work closely with the team to align event execution and service standards
- Own the sales performance and execute local initiatives to grow revenue and event business
- Manage the ordering, receiving and inventory counts (food, bar, supplies)
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints and feedback professionally
- Reduce waste and control COGS
- Review weekly results (Sales/Labour, COGS)
- Collaborating with vendors and suppliers
- Collaborate with the VP to implement hospitality policies, procedures and standards to optimize operational efficiencies
- Collaboration with the Marketing team on branding and social media
- Support content capture
- Partner with the team on promotions, launches, and community engagement
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 4-6 years of restaurant/banqueting experience, food service/hospitality and venue management.
- Bonus points for a degree or diploma in hospitality and/or proven personal commitment to professional development.
- Strong floor leadership and communication skills
- Ability to inspire and train staff, working with diverse group of people
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking, food safety and kitchen experience
- Ability to retain and coach excellent team members and develop high-performing leaders and team members
- Solid comprehension of food cost, labour and operating systems
- Valid food handles certificate
- Smart Server certification, First Aid & CPR, Food Handler’s Certification required (or willing to obtain)
- Numerical understanding, basic math skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Previous experience with scheduling an asset
- Possess technical acumen and am proficient with Excel, POS systems, and scheduling/ inventory software
- Must be able to work on a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays to support the needs of business operations
- Valid Driver’s license
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Occasional travel to off-site venues and extended hours during peak event periods
