We are now expanding our legal team and are looking for a driven, experienced Immigration Lawyer to join us in a hands-on, senior capacity.
Position Overview
This is a senior legal role for a called lawyer who has strong, practical experience across Canadian immigration law and is confident taking ownership of files, conducting legal analysis, appearing before immigration tribunals, and working directly alongside Mr. Kapil Rathod on complex and high-stakes matters.
You will serve as a key legal resource within the firm, providing legal opinions, reviewing and signing off on complex applications, mentoring caseworkers and support staff, and representing clients at the Immigration Appeal Division, Refugee Protection Division, and Refugee Appeal Division where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage and supervise immigration files from intake through to completion across all major categories
- Review, assess, and sign off on complex applications prepared by caseworkers and RCICs prior to submission
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice on refused, high-risk, and procedurally complex cases
- Work directly with Mr. Kapil Rathod on IAD appeals, tribunal matters, and complex client files
- Draft and review legal submissions, procedural fairness responses, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) responses
- Appear before the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD), Refugee Protection Division (RPD), and Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) as required
- Identify legal risks, inadmissibility issues, and gaps in applications and develop corrective strategies
- Handle matters including but not limited to: Study Permits, Visitor and Super Visas, Work Permits (open, employer-specific, spousal), LMIA applications, Permanent Residence (Express Entry, PNPs, spousal and family sponsorships), Business Immigration and Start-Up Visa, Refugee Claims, and Humanitarian and Compassionate Applications
- Mentor and guide caseworkers and immigration support staff on legal compliance, file quality, and procedural standards
- Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, client confidentiality, and ethical practice in accordance with Law Society of Ontario rules
- Meet deadlines consistently and maintain high productivity in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Required Qualifications
- JD or LLB from an accredited law school
- Called to the Bar in Ontario and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO)
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in Canadian immigration law, with exposure across both temporary and permanent residence categories
- Strong working knowledge of IRPA, IRPR, IRCC policies, and tribunal procedures (IAD, RPD, RAD)
- Demonstrated experience with Business Immigration, Start-Up Visa, and LMIA matters is a strong asset
- Experience in refugee claims and H&C matters is preferred
- Proven ability to review, identify risks in, and correct complex immigration files
- Excellent legal drafting skills including submissions, legal opinions, affidavits, and procedural fairness responses
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client communication skills
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple files under deadline pressure
- Committed to quality, professionalism, and ethical practice at all times
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience at an immigration law firm in the GTA
- Fluency in Hindi, Punjabi, or Gujarati is a significant asset given the firm's client base
- Experience appearing before the IAD, RPD, or RAD
