Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Population Health, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for ensuring publicly funded pharmaceuticals and vaccines are dispensed, distributed, transported, stored and handled in a manner that prevents wastage and preserves the safety, integrity and potency of the products. The incumbent will:
- Order and receive products from the Ontario Government Pharmacy Medical Supplies Services (OGPMSS) and contracted suppliers
- Ensure optimal stock levels are maintained
- Implement quality control measures
- Transport pharmaceuticals and vaccines in accordance with protocols and guidance to alternate locations as required
- Ensure accurate data entry within the provincial inventory database system(s).
- Conduct perpetual vaccine and pharmaceutical inventory management which includes the cycle counting, order, distribution, and return processes
- Generate reports of vaccine/pharmaceutical distribution and vaccine cold chain inspections
- Participate on committees, work groups, task forces and special projects, as assigned
- Ensure routine equipment maintenance is scheduled and maintain documentation
- Respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours as required
The successful applicant will possess:
- A Pharmacy Technician Diploma from an accredited Community College
- Certificate of Registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Previous experience in a Pharmacy Technician position, preferably in a public health setting
- Proficient computer and data entry skills
- Knowledge of vaccine storage and handling guidelines
- Sound knowledge of Ontario Public Health Standards and practical application of technical/ professional requirements as defined by the Ontario College of Pharmacists and applicable legislation
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines, prioritize demands, problem solve/trouble shoot, meet customer service standards and deadlines
- Excellent decision-making skills exercising tact, professionalism, sound judgement and conflict management
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information effectively and appropriately in a timely manner
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative by anticipating needs and working in a pro-active manner
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- An open and respectful approach to engaging colleagues with diverse perspectives
Current injection certification is considered an asset as is experience with programs such as Panorama and COVax.
