About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 82-year-old woman living independently in her home in Quinte West, between Stirling and Belleville. She recently lost her husband three weeks ago and is navigating life on her own while managing memory challenges and a brain injury. She's capable of handling most daily tasks independently but benefits from gentle reminders and companionship. Her family lives out of town in Ottawa and Oshawa, so consistent support is essential to help her remain safely in her home. She is culturally particular about having only female caregivers provide personal care assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide companionship and social engagement to reduce isolation
- Offer gentle reminders for daily tasks like laundry, grocery shopping, and meal timing
- Assist with light personal care including help getting in and out of the bathtub
- Support with medication reminders and management
- Accompany her on outings to Walmart, around the neighborhood, or to enjoy her garden
- Light housekeeping and tidying as needed
- Occasional transportation for errands and appointments
- Engage in activities like watching TV, playing cards, or simply spending quality time together
- Reheat meals and provide light meal preparation support
What We're Looking For:
- Female caregiver only due to cultural preferences
- Patient, calm, and warm personality who can build genuine rapport
- Experience with memory care and brain injury support
- Ability to provide memory prompts and gentle redirection
- Strong communication skills with both the client and family
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed
- Valid driver's license and willingness to provide occasional transportation
- Comfortable with a companion-focused role rather than intensive medical care
- English speaking
- Understanding that the client can be particular about personality fit and communication style due to hearing challenges
Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, approximately 3 hours per visit (6 hours per week total). The client currently receives PSW support Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings through OHIP, so this schedule complements existing care. Flexibility to adjust days or times based on mutual availability is appreciated, and there may be opportunities to add additional days as needs evolve.
