Fare Thee Well Legacy Films Inc. is an Ontario company that creates professionally edited life-story films for families, helping people preserve their personal histories on video for future generations. Our clients trust us with deeply personal stories, and we treat that trust as the heart of our work. We are growing, and we are looking for a contract video editor to join our team and take on the editing of our films.
About the role
You will handle the complete edit of each film, from raw interview footage to a polished, delivery-ready film, using professional digital video editing tools. For each project, you will receive raw interview footage that typically runs 60 to 120 minutes, along with a transcript and a project brief. You will shape the interview into a polished 20 to 30 minute film by selecting the strongest material, structuring the story, and setting the pacing. You will clean the edit fully, removing filler words and dead air and polishing the audio. You will finish the film to our brand guidelines, which includes titles, music, captions, and family-supplied photos. Finally, you will export the final delivery files along with a short highlight clip. The founders review every film and provide final approval before anything is delivered to a family, and one revision round is included in each project. What we're looking for
You have a strong story instinct and can find the emotional through-line in one to two hours of warm, wandering conversation and shape it into something that flows. You have proven editing experience with professional digital video editing tools, and experience with documentary, interview, podcast, or event work is ideal. You have a good eye and ear for finishing touches, including tasteful titles, music selection, and photo placement that serve the story rather than distract from it. You bring care, empathy, and discretion, since you will be working with deeply personal family footage; confidentiality and sensitivity are non-negotiable, and the successful candidate will sign a confidentiality agreement. You are reliable with deadlines, since some projects are genuinely time-sensitive and occasionally need a rough cut turned around quickly. You are comfortable working independently and remotely, with clear communication. Documentary or oral-history experience is a plus, though not required.
Contract terms and compensation
This is an independent contractor position that is project-based rather than hourly. You will be paid a flat fee per completed film, with one revision round included; the exact fee is being finalized and will be confirmed with the successful candidate before any work begins. We expect approximately two to four films per month to start, growing as the business grows. Rather than fixed weekly hours, you will manage your own schedule to meet delivery deadlines: a first cut is expected within approximately 7 days of receiving footage, and a final draft within 14 days, unless a project is flagged as time-sensitive. This role is fully remote and all work is delivered digitally, but applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada at this time. Our process and all client materials are confidential, and a signed non-disclosure agreement is a condition of the contract.
