ABOUT US
Wireline Services Group (Canada) is a subsidiary of WSG Australia and has been operating in Canada since 2012. WSG is a leading supplier of specialist geophysical wireline logging, ground electromagnetic (EM) and borehole EM geophysical survey services to the resource industry in Australia and Canada. WSG Canada operates out of a modern base in Sudbury, Ontario.
SCOPE
Due to increased business, we are looking to expand our Canadian field crews. The position will be based out of our Sudbury office with the successful applicant spending most of the time in the field at various locations throughout Canada.
Depending on company requirements work may be 5 days per week based in Sudbury, but most shifts will be 2 to 3 weeks in remote locations with appropriate time off between swings (usually 1 week). Shifts on site are up to 12 hours depending on client needs.
Surveys are undertaken in a variety of locations for various clients from remote exploration sites, to established mine sites.
DUTIES
- The primary responsibilities of a Geophysical Technician include but are not limited to:
- Operate geophysical logging and directional survey tools and vehicles in accordance with operating procedures;
- Attend all site client meetings and follow client requirements whilst on site or under their jurisdiction. Complete appropriate site-specific and internal and external inductions as required;
- Complete all relevant paperwork as dictated by the relevant procedures, including daily sheets and basic processing (training is provided);
- Assist in maintaining the logging units, tools and equipment in a clean and well-presented condition at all times;
- Present yourself and your logging unit in a tidy and professional manner at all times;
- Take a proactive approach to Health, Safety. and Environment Policies and Procedures and report any hazards and risks identified in the workplace. Contribute health and safety information and initiatives at safety and prestart meetings.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Required:
- 2 to 3 years of experience in geophysics or mining
- Experience with working outdoors, and in remote environments
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Unrestricted G class Driver’s Licence
- First Aid + CPR, AED Certificate or ability to obtain before starting
- Ability to successfully complete 4WD Course
- Basic level of MS Office Suite experience
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Favourable:
- Diploma, Degree or relevant experience in geology, geophysics or environmental sciences.
- Snowmobile, UTV, Argo and bear training
Helpful:
- Ability to speak a second language – French or Spanish
