As a Material Handler at Kiwi Newton Group, you will support steel manufacturing operations by safely and efficiently moving, organizing, tagging, and staging materials throughout the steel shop. Working closely with the Steel Shop team, you will help maintain continuous material flow, uphold safety standards, and contribute to the successful fabrication of high-quality steel building systems. This role requires experience handling long, heavy structural steel using forklifts and overhead cranes, as well as a willingness to remain hands-on when equipment operation is not required. Strong math skills and attention to detail are essential to ensure accurate tagging and material identification.
Position Details:
- Location: 41 Massey Rd., Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1H 7M6
- Full-Time, On-Site
- Day Shift, 7am-4pm
- Monday to Friday
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move long, heavy, and uneven structural steel safely
- Operate tagging equipment and accurately tag steel parts and assemblies per shop requirements
- Verify part quantities, weights, and dimensions using strong math skills and shop documentation
- Load, unload, organize, stage, and identify structural steel and related materials
- Maintain a continuous and efficient flow of materials to support steel shop production
- Remain hands-on with shop tasks when forklift or crane operation is not required
- Ensure materials are stored safely, accurately, and clearly labeled
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe steel shop work area
- Follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production schedules carefully
- Communicate clearly with the Steel Shop Supervisor and production team
- Support overall shop efficiency through teamwork and attention to detail
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Valid Forklift Certification required
- Overhead Crane Certification strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience operating material handling equipment with large, heavy, or uneven loads
- Strong math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying materials
- Physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ lbs
- Hands-on, adaptable worker willing to assist with shop tasks beyond equipment operation
- Strong understanding of workplace safety practices
- Ability to read shop drawings considered an asset
- Hand and power tool experience considered an asset
- Punctual, dependable, and reliable
- Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Ability to provide own transportation
