Black Box Manufacturing Inc. is a prefabricated metal enclosure manufacturer based in Langley, BC, serving utilities, mining, data centres, and heavy industrial sectors across North America.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Manager to lead the design and delivery of electrical systems housed within our custom industrial enclosures. This is a hands-on, fully on-site role for someone who can develop practical designs, manage project requirements, and support production from initial scope review through testing and closeout.
Roles & Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Professional Practice
Design industrial electrical systems for custom enclosures, including power distribution, equipment layouts, grounding and bonding, cable tray and conduit routing, lighting, controls, and system interfaces
Prepare complete drawing packages, including single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, schedules, cable tags, and connection details
Complete engineering analyses and calculations such as connected load, demand, conductor and cable sizing, voltage drop, grounding, and equipment ratings
Confirm designs comply with the Canadian Electrical Code, customer specifications, applicable standards, and professional-practice requirements
Prepare engineering documents for review and authentication by the supervising P.Eng.; candidates registered as a P.Eng. may authenticate or seal documents when required and within their professional competence
Project Management & Coordination
Lead assigned electrical projects from scope review through design, procurement, production, testing, delivery, and closeout
Manage electrical scope, schedules, deliverables, budgets, risks, decisions, changes, and client review milestones
Interpret customer specifications and contract requirements, identify gaps or conflicts, and obtain timely written clarification
Coordinate with customers, project managers, purchasing, suppliers, quality, fabrication, and electrical production staff
Report project status, risks, delays, decisions, and required actions clearly and promptly to the President and relevant stakeholders
Materials, Production & Quality Support
Prepare accurate electrical bills of materials, material takeoffs, and technical purchasing requirements
Review vendor quotations, product data, shop drawings, substitutions, compatibility, and lead-time risks
Resolve shop questions, RFIs, clashes, and installation constraints, and maintain controlled design revisions
Support inspections, testing, deficiency resolution, and confirmation that completed work meets approved drawings, specifications, codes, and quality requirements
Provide occasional installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting support; travel is infrequent
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized institution
Current registration in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
Minimum three years of progressive electrical design and project-delivery experience
EIT candidates must be able to perform reserved engineering activities under the direct supervision of a qualified EGBC professional registrant
Experience producing complete electrical designs for industrial equipment, modular buildings, electrical enclosures, switchgear, control systems, or custom manufacturing is strongly preferred
Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building, safety, and professional-practice requirements
Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable electrical design software, together with strong project planning, documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills
Experience in mining, data centres, utilities, oil and gas, or other industrial sectors is an asset; PMP designation or project-management training is also an asset
Compensation & Benefits
$85,000-$95,000 per year, based on relevant experience, qualifications, and registration level
