Job Summary – Chartered Professional Accountant
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) to join our public practice team. The ideal candidate will have strong public practice experience and technical proficiency in compilations (NTRs), year-end working papers, corporate and personal tax, and client advisory support. This role is essential in delivering high-quality financial reporting, tax compliance, and exceptional client service while supporting the growth of our firm.
Key ResponsibilitiesCompilation & Year-End Engagements
- Prepare Compilation (NTR) financial statements and full working paper files in accordance with ASPE, firm policies, and professional standards.
- Review bookkeeping and client-provided information for completeness and accuracy.
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations; prepare adjusting journal entries and continuity schedules.
- Identify accounting issues and provide recommendations aligned with ASPE and best practices.
Tax Compliance & Planning
- Prepare T2 corporate tax returns, including supporting schedules and planning considerations.
- Complete T1 personal tax returns, including investment income, rentals, business income, and shareholder-related filings.
- Support tax research, planning strategies, and advisory engagements as needed.
Bookkeeping Oversight & Client Support
- Oversee or review full-cycle bookkeeping for assigned clients to ensure accurate financial records.
- Provide clients guidance on accounting processes, financial documentation, and software usage (QBO, Xero, Sage, etc.).
- Communicate directly with clients to clarify issues, gather required information, and deliver recommendations.
Quality Control, Professional Standards & Advisory
- Ensure all engagements comply with CPA Canada standards, firm methodology, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide insights on financial results and trends to support client decision-making.
- Mentor junior team members and support internal process improvements when needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- CPA designation required (or near completion with strong public practice experience).
- Prior experience working in a public accounting firm is mandatory.
- Strong technical understanding of ASPE, Compilation (NTR) standards, and year-end working paper preparation.
- Review Engagement experience is an asset but not required.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Sage, Xero, and payroll systems such as ADP, Ceridian, or Wagepoint.
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail for reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced public practice environment.
