JOB SUMMARY
The Riverbend Group is seeking a dependable and hardworking Local Driver, Yard and Maintenance team member to support our transportation and operational activities in Debert, NS. This diverse role combines local driving responsibilities with yard operations, forklift operation, and general equipment and facility maintenance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting materials and equipment locally, loading and unloading freight, assisting with yard organization, and supporting the maintenance and upkeep of trucks, trailers, equipment, and company facilities. Candidates should be safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a hands-on environment where priorities may shift daily.
This position requires strong organizational skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience operating forklifts, securing flatbed loads, and performing routine maintenance tasks is considered a strong asset. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional operation of Riverbend's transportation and yard facilities.
KEY DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely operate Class 1 tractor-trailers and flatbed units on local and regional routes
- Transport materials, equipment, and freight in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements
- Properly secure loads using chains, straps, binders, and tarps while ensuring compliance with cargo securement regulations
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as required
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized yard environment
- Perform routine yard duties, including material handling, inventory organization, and site housekeeping
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on equipment, trailers, and yard assets and report repair needs to management
- Assist mechanics and shop personnel as required
- Maintain accurate documentation, inspection records, and trip reports
- Follow all company safety policies, transportation regulations, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Class 1 Driver’s License
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Successful completion of a road test
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Criminal Record Check required
- Forklift experience/ certification considered an asset
- Flatbed experience considered an asset
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices and transportation regulations
- Ability to work independently and manage long periods on the road
- Professional attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
