Shop Labourer / Forklift Operator
We are looking for a reliable, safety-minded Shop Labourer to join our team. The ideal candidate is hardworking, takes pride in producing quality work, and is eager to learn. Experience operating a forklift, sandblasting, and preparing steel for welding and coating is highly valued.
This position involves supporting our fabrication team through material handling, surface preparation, shop organization, and general labour duties in a steel manufacturing environment. For the right individual who demonstrates a strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to the team, there may be an opportunity to pursue a welding apprenticeship in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform sandblasting and surface preparation of steel products.
- Prepare material for welding, including grinding, cleaning, beveling, and fit-up assistance.
- Load, unload, organize, and move steel materials throughout the shop.
- Assist welders and fabricators with production activities as required.
- Inspect prepared materials to ensure they meet quality standards before fabrication or coating.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Follow all company safety procedures, workplace policies, and applicable regulations.
- Assist with general shop duties, housekeeping, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to complete projects safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial shop environment preferred.
- Valid forklift certification or previous forklift operating experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with sandblasting or industrial surface preparation is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing steel for welding or painting is considered an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
- Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.
- Physically capable of lifting materials, standing for extended periods, and performing manual labour in an industrial environment.

Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
