About the Position
Part Nine Performance Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Carpenter (1st, 2nd, or 3rd year) or pre-employment program graduate to join our team. We specialize in energy-efficient renovations, building envelope improvements, and performance upgrades for Part 9 buildings — homes and small buildings.
This position offers hands-on experience across all stages of residential construction, from concrete to finishing, with a strong focus on retrofits, restorations, and upgrades to existing buildings. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, takes pride in craftsmanship, and is interested in the science behind how buildings perform.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with demolition, framing, and structural repairs on residential and small building projects
- Participate in air sealing, insulation, and weather barrier installation to improve energy efficiency
- Help install and flash windows, doors, and exterior cladding following best practices for moisture and air control
- Support concrete forming, rebar installation, and small foundation pours
- Aid in roofing, siding, and restoration work
- Assist with reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and construction details
- Support cabinetry, trim, flooring, and finishing installations
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and effectively
- Assist with construction painting, caulking, and general assembly tasks
- Perform material handling, cleanup, and setup to keep job sites organized and efficient
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a professional work ethic
- Collaborate with skilled carpenters and trades on-site and take direction to learn new techniques
Qualifications
- Registered 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year apprentice, or graduate of a pre-employment carpentry program or equal experience
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Your own basic hand and power tools (some tools may be provided)
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks
- Comfortable working outside year-round, including during hot weather or winter conditions
- Prior experience with construction, woodworking, or maintenance
Experience With (or Willing to Learn)
- Energy-efficient renovation techniques and building science fundamentals
- Air and vapour barrier detailing, blower door testing, and thermal imaging
- Exterior envelope retrofits, rainscreen assemblies, and insulation upgrades
- Masonry, roofing, tile, flooring, and cabinetry installation
- Basic plumbing and electrical coordination under supervision
- Renovation carpentry rather than new construction
