Job Summary
Catapulta Contracting Inc. is a well-established Calgary general contractor with 10+ years in residential construction, renovations, and steel stud framing. We are urgently hiring a hands-on Experienced Carpenter/Working Foreman to lead crews, coordinate site operations, and deliver high-quality work safely and efficiently year-round.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily site operations: conduct morning briefings, assign tasks, monitor productivity, and maintain schedules.
- Read and interpret drawings/specs; execute accurate layout (walls, doors, windows, trusses, sheathing, backing/hardware).
- Perform advanced carpentry: precise cuts, structural connections, window/door installs, blocking, and occasional fit/finish, high level lift work and column framing.
- Coordinate materials and logistics: verify takeoffs, prepare cut lists, manage deliveries, control waste.
- Enforce safety: conduct toolbox talks, complete FLHAs, uphold PPE/fall protection, maintain a clean, hazard-free site.
- Quality control: verify plumb/level/square, fastener types/patterns, firestopping, and code/plan compliance; correct deficiencies.
- Mentor apprentices and junior carpenters with on-the-tools coaching and performance feedback.
- Communicate progress, issues, and changes with the project manager and, when needed, clients.
- Operate and maintain hand/power tools and equipment (nailers, saws, compressors, lasers, lifts) safely and comfortably.
- Document site activities: daily logs, photos, timesheets, and incident/near-miss reports.
- Assist with look-ahead planning, sequencing, and coordination with other trades.
Requirements
- 4+ years of framing/carpentry experience, including proven crew lead/foreman duties.
- WHMIS and CSTS certifications.
- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills; able to work to tight tolerances.
- Demonstrated ability to lead 2–6 crew members safely and productively.
- Solid knowledge of residential and steel stud framing, trusses, sheathing, fasteners, building envelope basics, and Alberta Building Code fundamentals.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work safely at heights/on active construction sites.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle (many sites in new developments without transit).
- Own basic carpentry tools/pouch; care for company tools/equipment.
- Professional communication, punctuality, reliability, and a solutions-first attitude.
Assets
- Journeyperson Carpenter (Red Seal) or equivalent experience.
- First Aid, Fall Arrest, and Aerial Work Platform certifications.
- Experience with lasers, layout from control points, QA documentation.
- Renovation experience and coordination with other trades.
- Additional personal tools and/or lift tickets.
