The Opportunity
Our client, a US-based public relations agency, is seeking a Corporate Communications & Media Relations Consultant for a six-month contract. The Corporate Communications & Media Relations Consultant will be engaged on a high-profile, confidential national corporate launch mandate spanning English Canada and Quebec. The work covers both internal and external communications across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment operating under significant regulatory and reputational scrutiny. This is a senior, independently operated role requiring sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to move quickly in a fast-moving, sensitive mandate.
What You'll Own
- Internal communications strategy and execution supporting a subsidiary launch and organizational transition
- Manager cascade toolkit development including talking points, FAQs, Q&A frameworks, and structured messaging guides
- Employee-facing communications across multiple levels of the organization during a period of significant change
- Executive leadership positioning and internal profile development for senior leaders
- Internal memo writing including announcements, briefing notes, transition communications, and executive-facing materials
- Crisis communications planning and execution including proactive and reactive frameworks, holding statements, and legally routed media statements
- Cross-functional collaboration with legal, government relations, and HR teams
Must-Have Qualifications
- 7-10+ years of senior communications experience in-house and/or agency, with ownership of both internal and external communications
- Based in Eastern Canada with availability across Eastern and Pacific/MST time zones, Monday through Friday, with crisis-window flexibility on evenings and weekends
- Must operate as an independent contractor with a registered business (incorporated or sole proprietor), able to invoice independently
- Proven experience in crisis communications including issues management, statement drafting, and rapid response
- Strong background in internal communications during organizational change including restructuring, M&A, subsidiary launches, or large-scale transformation
- Experience developing executive leadership messaging, internal positioning, and manager cascade communications
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with legal, government relations, and HR stakeholders
- Comfortable operating under strict NDA in a high-sensitivity, regulated industry environment
- French bilingualism strongly preferred
Nice to Haves
- Quebec market knowledge and familiarity with the French-language media landscape
- Government relations exposure at the federal or provincial level
- Experience in a regulated industry such as pharma, energy, alcohol, public health, or federally regulated corporate environments
- Existing relationships with Canadian national and regional media
- Corporate launch, spin-off, or M&A communications experience
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a writing sample and share one or two relevant case studies. An NDA will be required prior to full mandate details being disclosed.
