About the role
As part of our Cloud Transformation Program to reduce our on‑premises footprint and support the removal of one of our data centers by 2030, the Cloud Platform Architect will work in close alignment with the Senior Cloud Platform Architect and follow the Senior Technical Leadership direction. This role supports the development of long-term architecture, roadmaps, and foundational capabilities that enable the enterprise cloud strategy.
The mission is to help design secure, scalable platform patterns and Landing Zones across a multi-cloud environment on GCP, AWS, and Azure; support critical transformations; and help application teams move from lift-and-shift toward cloud-native adoption. The role partners with Enterprise Architecture, Platform Engineering, Security, Networking, and Application leaders by providing standards, decision frameworks, hands-on guidance, and execution support. It balances strategic architecture participation with deep, hands-on engineering and focuses on knowledge transfer to help mature the platform product.
What you’ll do here:
- Strategy, Roadmaps and Critical Programs
Support multi-year, multi-cloud transformation roadmaps and foundational initiatives, including Landing Zones, modern networking, identity, and observability, in alignment with Senior Technical Leadership and the enterprise cloud strategy. -
Contribute to modern networking designs across GCP, AWS, and Azure, including DNS strategy, cross-cloud interconnect, private connectivity, and scalable security patterns.
-
Align with Enterprise Architecture on security, networking, and data patterns, and help translate target states into pragmatic transition architectures for each cloud.
Landing Zones and Foundational Architecture
- Support the architecture of multi-account and multi-subscription Landing Zones in GCP, AWS, and Azure, including identity, network segmentation, policies and guardrails, logging and monitoring, and shared services.
-
Contribute to reference architectures and blueprints, and help establish secure-by-default standards using policy-as-code such as AWS SCPs, Azure Policies, and GCP organization policies.
-
Provide input into platform enhancements for scalability, reliability, and consistency, and maintain architecture decision records and design documentation.
Hands-On Engineering and Prototyping
-
Build and maintain reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, pipelines, and blueprints that teams can adopt across GCP, AWS, and Azure.
-
Prototype and validate new multi-cloud platform capabilities such as private service connectivity, secure ingress and egress, and identity integrations, following architectural direction and approved standards.
-
Contribute to reference implementations in code repositories, participate in code reviews, and pair with engineers to accelerate adoption.
Application Transformation Strategy
-
Apply approved decision frameworks for migration approaches, including rehost, replatform, and refactor, with plans to evolve toward cloud-native capabilities on each cloud as appropriate.
-
Work with application architects to sequence modernization milestones after lift-and-shift and ensure alignment with platform standards.
Scalable Processes, Intake and Governance
-
Support the design and operationalization of scalable intake and architecture review processes to select appropriate technologies early and plan ahead.
Contribute to repeatable, auditable reviews that help prevent ad hoc choices misaligned with multi-cloud standards. -
Use playbooks, checklists, and decision matrices to enable consistent participation and follow-through across teams.
Enablement and Knowledge Transfer
- Support architecture clinics, workshops, and training to help upskill Platform, Operations, and Application teams across all three clouds.
-
Provide runbooks, readiness criteria, and reference implementations for handover and operational readiness.
-
Coach engineers and architects by sharing standards, examples, and practical guidance in alignment with Senior Technical Leadership.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Decision Making
-
Participate in key decision forums such as the Architecture Review Board, program steering, and PI Planning.
-
Act as a connector across Platform Engineering, Security, Networking, and Application teams, helping clarify responsibilities and handoffs.
-
Communicate trade-offs and rationale to technical stakeholders and support alignment around approved standards.
How You Will Interface with Other Teams
Platform Engineering: You align with the Senior Cloud Platform Architect on target states, guardrails, and reference designs. Platform Engineering builds and operates platform capabilities. You support, review, and enable—not direct day-to-day execution.
-
Enterprise Architecture: You align on principles and target architectures and contribute detailed, implementable patterns and transition plans.
-
Operations: You provide patterns, code, runbooks, and readiness criteria that enable reliable operations at scale.
-
Application and Product Teams: You advise on migration and modernization paths and provide golden paths and secure‑by‑default patterns to reduce friction.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
-
Certifications are assets, for example AWS, Azure, or GCP Professional or Architect.
-
Eight or more years in cloud or platform architecture or engineering, with hands-on experience supporting enterprise Landing Zone capabilities in at least two of GCP, AWS, and Azure.
-
Experience contributing to critical, multi-quarter programs in networking, identity, or platform foundations within a cloud transformation context.
-
Demonstrated success delivering hands‑on code for infrastructure as code, pipelines, and reference implementations, and coaching teams at scale.
-
Deep expertise in Landing Zones, including IAM models, hub and spoke, Transit Gateway, Virtual WAN, and Cloud Router equivalents, DNS, private connectivity, cross‑cloud interconnect, and policy frameworks such as AWS SCPs, Azure Policies, and GCP organization policies.
-
Strong knowledge of cloud‑native security and scalable security patterns that protect resources at scale.
-
Proficiency with infrastructure as code and at least one language such as Python, Go, PowerShell, or Bash.
-
Familiarity with Kubernetes on EKS, AKS, and GKE, service mesh, and modern application architectures.
-
Excellent communication, facilitation, and decision‑making skills. Able to articulate trade‑offs and gain alignment.
-
Bilingual (French and English) - need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
Nice to Have :
-
Experience in regulated industries and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI.
-
Background in platform product management including backlog, roadmaps, and stakeholder engagement.
-
Experience establishing architecture communities of practice.
