Position Title: Property Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Residential Property Accountant to join a small, collaborative property management company in Ottawa on a temporary contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys tackling complex reconciliations, organizing financial records, and bringing structure to accounting processes.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, is confident working independently, and isn't intimidated by jumping into new processes and systes. You'll receive direction from leadership and take ownership of the day-to-day accounting responsibilities for a portfolio of residential properties. As the Residential Property Accountant, you will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting functions for multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining the integrity of financial records.
Responsibilities:
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable for multiple residential properties.
- Completing bank and account reconciliations, and resolving outstanding discrepancies
- Posting journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records.
- Preparing monthly financial statements and supporting month-end and year-end processes.
- Processing invoices, tracking payments, following up on outstanding receivables, and coordinating rent collections.
- Applying rent, maintenance fees, and other tenant charges accurately.
- Maintaining financial documentation, including leases, contracts, invoices, and receipts.
- Assisting with a small payroll using ADP.
- Supporting cash flow management and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
The ideal candidate is a confident and resourceful accounting professional with a minimum of four years of full-cycle accounting experience and a proven ability to manage multiple sets of books. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, cash flow management, and the preparation of accurate financial statements. You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities while working independently. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you'll regularly interact with tenants, vendors, and internal stakeholders in a professional manner. Most importantly, you are proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of your work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
