THE ROLE – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As our 4th -Year Plumber Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced Journeyperson Plumbers on a variety of residential and light commercial plumbing and heating projects across Central Alberta. Day-to-day, you can expect to:
● Assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining residential and light commercial plumbing systems
● Rough in water lines, drainage, venting, fixtures, and related plumbing components under Journeyperson supervision
● Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, job specifications, and code requirements
● Assist with service, troubleshooting, and replacement work for plumbing and heating equipment
● Measure, cut, thread, solder, crimp, and assemble piping using appropriate tools and safe work practices
● Ensure all work is completed in compliance with Alberta Plumbing Code, applicable building codes, and safety regulations
● Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site at all times
● Work collaboratively with Journeypersons, project leads, and other tradespeople on site
● Stay current on apprenticeship record book requirements and actively progress toward 4th Period milestones
● Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in proper working order — treat the gear like it's your own
WHAT YOU BRING – QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Certification
● Currently enrolled in and actively progressing through a Plumber apprenticeship program — 4th Period (Year 4) standing is required
● Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on plumbing experience
● Valid Alberta apprenticeship indenture / registration with Alberta Advanced Education, Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT)
● Gasfitter experience or certification is a strong asset, but not required
● Working toward Red Seal endorsement upon Journeyperson completion — this is the expectation and we'll support you in getting there
● Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract required
● First Aid / CPR certification is an asset
Technical Skills
● Comfortable with rough-in and finishing work for water, drainage, venting, and fixture installations
● Working knowledge of common piping materials and joining methods, including PEX, copper, ABS, PVC, and threaded pipe
● Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, fixture layouts, and manufacturer instructions
● Basic understanding of plumbing code requirements and safe installation practices
Physical Requirements
● Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 75 lbs
● Comfortable working in confined spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and on rooftops
● Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and sustain awkward body positions for extended periods
● Comfortable working in varying temperatures and weather conditions — this is Central Alberta, after all
● Must be able to safely climb ladders and work at heights
