WHAT'S THE JOB?
Job Purpose
The Overnight Heavy-Duty Cleaner & Equipment Operator is responsible for performing cleaning and facility maintenance tasks with a strong emphasis on the safe and effective operation of cleaning machinery and equipment. This role includes maintaining hard floor and carpeted surfaces, operating specialized cleaning equipment, performing high-level cleaning using ladders, and managing waste removal processes throughout the facility.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment & Machinery Operation

Operate and maintain cleaning equipment including walk-behind and ride-on floor machines, carpet extractors, vacuums, and power washers

Perform floor care tasks such as scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing using appropriate machinery

Shampoo and extract carpets using industrial-grade equipment

Transport cleaning machinery between floors and designated work areas as required

Conduct pre- and post-use inspections and cleaning of all equipment

Ensure proper tools and equipment are selected and used for each task
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance

Clean and maintain large floor surfaces using both manual and powered equipment

Perform high-level cleaning (glass, ledges, vents, light fixtures, ceiling fans) using ladders

Detail clean stairwells, elevator cabs, walls, partitions, and facility fixtures

Dust mop, vacuum, and disinfect floors in common areas and washrooms
-
Polish chrome, stainless steel, and other surfaces as required

Clean maintenance rooms, tenant areas, and stock rooms on scheduled rotations

Power wash exterior curbside areas and assist with snow removal as required
Waste Management & Material Handling

Operate waste handling processes including transporting garbage from collection points to compactors

Empty, clean, and maintain waste containers and garbage bins

Respond to spills, including medical spills or floods, using proper PPE and procedures

Perform litter removal in interior and exterior areas
Operational Support

Deliver and restock cleaning supplies as needed

Set up and remove equipment such as stanchions as scheduled

Follow designated cleaning routes and respond promptly to radio calls

Use iOS-based systems to track, verify, and document completed tasks

Maintain responsibility for assigned keys, tools, and equipment
