Litigation Lawyer
Location: Mississauga, ON
Job Type: Full-Time, In-person
Salary: $65,000 Base + Commissions ($90,000 to $100,000)
Position Overview
KPA Lawyers Professional Corporation is seeking a motivated Civil Litigation Lawyer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will manage their own litigation files from start to finish while representing clients in a variety of civil litigation matters. This role is ideal for a lawyer with 1–2 years of civil litigation experience who enjoys courtroom advocacy, client interaction, and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing your own litigation files from inception through resolution.
- Drafting claims, statements of defence, applications, motions, affidavits, factums, and other legal documents.
- Appearing before the court to argue motions, attend case conferences, applications, hearings, and trials.
- Preparing for and conducting examinations for discovery and hearings.
- Liaising professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court officials, and other stakeholders.
- Utilizing litigation software to efficiently manage files and maintain accurate records.
- Developing and executing effective litigation strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing as a lawyer (required).
- 1–2 years of civil litigation experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Courts of Justice Act.
- Comfortable appearing in court and confident advocating on behalf of clients.
- Strong courtroom advocacy skills.
- Advanced negotiation and client management skills.
- Familiarity with ACL, WestLaw, Cosmolex, ESC, Teraview, and various legal research databases.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when drafting correspondence and legal documents.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and work autonomously.
- Ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment by identifying issues requiring immediate attention.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain lasting client relationships.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as a collaborative team player.
- Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with legal technology and a willingness to learn new applications.
