Steamworks Brewing is looking for a passionate, quality-focused brewer to join our production team as a Shift Brewer. This position is an excellent opportunity for a brewer looking to develop a well-rounded skill set. The Shift Brewer rotates weekly between two key roles: brewing on the Afternoon Shift (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM) and working in the cellar during the Day Shift (10:00 AM – 6:00 PM). This rotation provides exposure to all stages of the brewing process—from wort production through fermentation, cellaring, and bright beer. You’ll be part of a collaborative brewing team focused on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Employees working early morning, afternoon, and graveyard shifts are eligible for shift premiums.
Key Responsibilities:
Brewhouse Operations (Afternoon Shift – 4PM–12AM):
- Execute daily wort production according to brew schedule and SOPs
- Mill grain and manage raw material inventory
- Operate and monitor brewhouse equipment (mash tun, kettle, whirlpool, etc.)
- Complete accurate batch records and maintain brewing logs
- Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas to meet QA and safety standards
Cellar Operations (Day Shift – 10AM–6PM):
- Perform cellar tasks including dry hopping, transfers, centrifuging, yeast cropping, and tank CIPs
- Maintain bright beer at required specifications (carbonation, DO) in preparation for packaging
- Complete accurate batch records for all processes
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tanks, lines, and workspaces
General Expectations:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies
- Communicate clearly with other departments (packaging, lab, etc.)
- Prioritize and manage multiple brewing and cellar tasks simultaneously while meeting production schedules.
- Troubleshoot brewing, cellar, and equipment issues by identifying root causes and implementing appropriate corrective actions
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and process consistency
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and quality
- Participate in occasional weekend or holiday shifts if needed
Qualifications:
- Commercial brewing or cellar experience is preferred; however, candidates with relevant education and strong practical skills are encouraged to apply.
- Diploma or certificate in Brewing Science or related field an asset
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and occasional overtime
- Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
