Job description
Reporting to the Artistic Program Director, the Junior Acting Instructor is responsible for planning and teaching weekly after-school acting classes for children in grades K-2 (ages 5-7) that introduce fundamentals of theatre while encouraging creativity and confidence and in keeping with the vision, philosophy, values and mission of Amber Academy Youth Fine Arts Society. Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:
Qualifications
- Self-directed with excellent communication and leadership skills
- Enjoy working with young children and able to establish rapport with kids of varying skills and abilities
- Enthusiastic about mentoring and empowering youth to become confident individuals and engaged members of the community
- Able to create and implement a program with clear goals and lesson plans
Experience
- Must have drama or musical theatre performance experience
- Proven leadership experience with young children of varying abilities in an educational or recreational capacity (daycare, preschool, summer camp, etc.)
- Previous experience directing a production would be an asset
- Experience in dance and/or choreography would be an asset
This is a contract, part-time term position beginning in September 2026 and terminating June 2027 with the option to renew for the 2027-2028 season. Regular classes will be most Fridays from 3:30-5:00pm. The Junior Acting Instructor may also be invited to join the production team for the academy’s spring musical theatre production for January – June 2027. Compensation will be based on previous experience, education, and training.
