OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Town of Erin is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and community-minded individual to join our Recreation team as a Program Attendant for the 55+ Active Living Program. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Program Attendant is responsible for planning and delivering safe, engaging, inclusive, and high-quality recreation programs designed to support the interests, abilities, and well-being of older adults in the community.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging recreation programs and activities designed to meet the interests, needs, and abilities of adults ages 55+
- Lead a variety of social, recreational, educational, creative, and active-living activities that encourage participation, connection, and overall well-being.
- Arrive prepared to lead assigned programs and organize all required supplies, materials, and equipment prior to program start time.
- Create a positive, inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment that encourages social connection and meaningful participation.
- Adapt activities and instruction to accommodate varying abilities, mobility levels, interests, and participant needs.
- Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, encouragement, and assistance to support participant comfort, confidence, and engagement.
- Monitor participant safety and well-being throughout programs and proactively identify and address potential hazards or concerns.
- Ensure all program equipment, supplies, and materials are used safely and stored appropriately following each session.
- Assist with program setup and cleanup, attendance tracking, participant communication, and administrative duties as required.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants, caregivers, families, community partners, and members of the public.
- Complete incident reports and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Work collaboratively with Recreation staff, volunteers, community partners, and other team members to support high-quality program delivery.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with adults (55 years of age and over) is required
- Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with older adults while delivering programs in a professional, respectful, and engaging manner.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working with seniors in a recreation setting.
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and community-oriented attitude.
- Capability and readiness to work in diverse weather conditions.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification is considered an asset.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required
- This casual position requires flexibility, including daytime, evening, and occasional weekend shifts based on program needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Casual part-time hours (up to 4 hours per week) based on program schedules and operational needs.
- Evening, daytime, and weekend availability may be required.
- Programs may take place indoors or outdoors at various Town of Erin recreation facilities, parks, and community spaces.
- Must wear appropriate protective clothing as required.
