Position Overview:
Reporting to the Community Outreach Lead and HUB Yard Supervisor, this position provides front-line, housing-focused outreach through both YRAD dispatch response and on-site support within the Hub Yard at 473 St. George Street.
YRAD staff respond to dispatch calls in the community while maintaining a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment within the Hub Yard. This role requires balancing dispatch response with in-yard responsibilities, maintaining clear communication to ensure continuous coverage and support.
The position requires a strong commitment to the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values, and to relationship-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction-oriented practice.
There are two shifts available for this position:
Evenings: 3:30PM-12:00AM
Overnight: 12:00AM-8:30AM (Awake shifts)
Full time and part time positions available!
License and full-time access to a personal vehicle are a requirement of the position.
Duties:
- Respond to YRAD dispatch calls in a timely manner, providing trauma informed, person-centered, and harm reduction-based support in the community.
- Maintain a consistent and active presence within the Hub Yard, supporting day-to-day member interactions and overall safety.
- Engage members through relationship-building, regular check-ins, and ongoing support.
- Provide crisis response, including overdose intervention, de-escalation, and coordination with emergency services when required.
- Distribute harm reduction supplies and provide education on safer use practices.
- Support members with basic needs, weather response, and wellness checks.
- Lead Hub Yard operations, including access to storage bins and maintaining a safe, respectful environment.
- Contribute to yard cleanliness and light maintenance to support a welcoming space.
- Provide goal-focused, case management-style support during designated shifts or as appropriate.
- Support members in identifying priorities and working toward housing stability and overall well-being.
- Assist with system navigation; including housing applications, income supports, identification, and referrals.
- Advocate for members and help reduce barriers to accessing services.
- Plan and deliver low-barrier programming within the Hub Yard, such as gardening, life skills, and recreational or creative activities.
- Foster a sense of community and belonging through inclusive, member-driven engagement opportunities.
- Maintain and build positive community relations with key partners, including the City of Moncton, Social Development, DMCI (Downtown Moncton / Centre-ville Inc.), the RCMP, and others.
Skills & Qualifications:
- A criminal record check and vulnerable sector check are required as a condition of employment.
- Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle full time.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (or Basic Rescuer CPR) certification required.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Bilingualism is an asset.
- Completion of a college or university program in Social Services, Community Support, Human Services, or a related field; relevant lived experience is also valued.
